QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Test Many of you will have come accross the problem of Irish immigrants who received the BCG vaccine in Ireland who consistently test positive on TB tests and are required to get xrays and in some cases asked to go on a course of drugs. There is now a new test that may be of assitance in this. It is recommended for immigrants who have had the BCG. More information can be found on the CDC website.

2008 The program is sponsored by a Legal Aid Office in California. This on-line tax preparation program will help most of our clients do both their Federal & NY taxes for free. There are no longer income eligibility limits to use this program, as it had in earlier years. You can generally use I-CAN!® E-file unless you own a business, are a church employee or clergy member, sold real estate in 2008 or you or your employer have a non-US address. If you are in the military or you are disabled you may be eligible for tax credits that are not included in I-CAN!® E-file.

DV Lottery Application Period Now Over The entry registration period for DV-2010 green card lottery ended on December 1, 2008. DV-2010 lottery applicants will be selected and notified by mail between May and July 2009 and will be provided further instructions, including information on fees connected with immigration to the U.S. Those selected in the random drawing are NOT notified by email. Those individuals NOT selected will NOT receive any notification. Starting July 1, 2009, applicants will be able to check the status of their entry by returning to the website and entering their unique confirmation number and personal information from their online application receipt. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reminds the public
that its new fee schedule is effective today, July 30, 2007. USCIS announced the new fee schedule in May 2007 following a comprehensive review of nearly 4,000 public comments. The final fee schedule includes a reduction in fees for some families applying for adjustment of status, expands fee waiver and exemption eligibility, allows a one-time free extension of orphan petitions for prospective adoptive parents, and replaces old fees on various petitions and applications with new fees that ensure appropriate funding to meet national security requirements and customer service needs, and modernize an outdated business infrastructure. For more information concerning the final fee schedule, visit USCIS’ Web site at www.uscis.gov/21stCenturyService. There, you’ll learn how USCIS will “Build an Immigration Service for the 21st Century” based upon this new fee structure. USCIS’ official fee schedule (Publication G-1055) is available for review and downloading at http://www.uscis.gov/fees. As announced on July 17, 2007, the only applicants temporarily exempt from the new fee schedule are those who are eligible to apply for employment-based adjustment of status (Form I-485) under the Department of State’s July Visa Bulletin No. 107.
